Classes

Cheer & Tumble Tyme offers three different classes for many age levels.  Classes are divided up into different age groups and ability levels.

                     Tumbling                                          Cheerleading/Poms

Tumbling: (3 and up) This class will help build strength, flexibility and balance.  Beginners will start with basic balance and hand eye coordination exercises and progress to rolls, cartwheels, and eventually different variation of flips.  As students progress they will learn more difficult tumbling like walkovers, back handsprings, and tucks.  Students participating in tumbling have the opportunity to join the “TWISTERS” our competition power tumbling team.

Tumbling for Wrestlers: This class is a new class with a slightly different approach.  Basic tumbling will be taught along with a focus on how tumbling skills can be used in the sport of wrestling.

The class will consist of:

  • Stretching & Flexibility
  • Warmups (Tumbling & Wrestling Drills)
  • Basic Tumbling
  • Relating Moves learned in Tumblinig back to Wrestling.

While covering the following areas:

  • Balance
  • Body control
  • Hand eye coordination
  • Flexibility
  • Strength

Classes will have guests throughout the session that could include local coaches and wrestlers.

Competition Tumbling: Are you 3 years old or older?? Can you do 5 forward rolls?? If so you can start competing in power tumbling!  Power tumbling is an individual competitive sport that is a great confidence builder for kids.  Students must be enrolled in a standard tumbling class and attend as many extra competition practices as they can.  You are able to pick and choose as many or as little competitions as you would like to attend.  Every child who participates will receive a score and get a trophy or a medal, no matter what place they get.  Let us know if you are interested and we will be happy to provide you more information!

Cheer Squad (Albia Site): (4yrs and up).  Students will learn basic cheer technique along with stunting, cheers, and a cheer routine.  This class focuses on technique along with group work.  Students will spend class time learning motions, jumps, cheers, and dances individually.  BUT they will then come together as a group to learn stunting and to put a routine together.  This class will teach great TEAM work and trust in your team members.  In the summer students will learn a short routine but will focus on basics and technique to prepare for the normal season.  During the normal season we will try to compete in one competition and perform at local events.

All Star Youth Cheer: This year we are offering two new all star cheer divisions.  The Youth division will be for students 8yrs – 11yrs and the Senior division will be for students 14yrs – 18yrs.  Competition age is as of August 31, 2011.  The Youth squad will be based out of our Albia facility and our Senior squad will be based out of our Oskaloosa facility.  Our youth squad will begin practicing in July and our Senior squad will begin practice at the end of July/beginning of August (when the gym is ready).  Youth squads will meet once a week on average.  Classes may not meet the same time every week/month.  Schedules will be handed out by month.  Senior squads will practice an average of 6 hours a month throughout the season.  With kids in other HS activities we will compile schedules and assign practice times on a month by month basis.  More hours may be put in if needed prior to competitions and at the beginning to learn the routines.  Practices may be less as the season goes on and the routine has been mastered.

Pom Squad (Osky Site): (Level 1 & up) This class uses sharp, precise movements to usually a fast tempo style of music. Poms emphasizes uniformity and utilization of pom pons for maximum visual effect. Basic dance and cheerleading moves (including stunting) will be combined to create a unique routine.
