Yarkosky & Company Dance Productions
Yarkosky & Company Dance Productions was founded by Chris & Lainee Yarkosky in 2011. Chris had taught dance in the area until moving out of state. Since returning, the desire for pre-professional training for dancers has led to the mother daughter duo to open their own dance production services.
Ms Chris - Chris stepped into a dance studio at age three, and has been dancing ever since. She studied under professional dancer, choreographer, and instructor Barbra Liston out of Chicago,Illinois. Chris was afforded the opportunity to perform dance company work with Ms. Liston which, she believes, opened a whole new world for her love of dance and theater. Chris has been in several dance and theater productions since the young age of 4 when she played one of the Von Trapp children in a high school production of “The Sound of Music”. One of her most memorable performances, as an adult, was the lead role in “Mame”. Chris later joined Ms. Liston as owner of the studio and together shared their passion for dance and theater with their students. Chris has been a studio owner for approximately 25 years. She keeps up with the most recent dance trends by attending teacher workshops, competitions, dance productions, and professional performances. Over the years, Chris has taught dance in Albia, Oskaloosa, Eddyville, Thornburg, andEustis,Florida. She coached the high school dance team at Pella Christian for two years, and currently coaches Oskaloosa, where she began the program several years ago. After moving back to Oskaloosa two years ago, she has returned to the head coach position and is going into her 7th year of coaching the team. Chris has choreographed, in entirety, the Christmas classic Nutcracker, stage performances, in entirety, Peter Pan, Grease, and Sound of Music, to name a few, as well as excerpts from Cats, Annie, Wizard of Oz, etc., dinner theatres, community theatre musicals, high school show choirs and musicals. Chris is very passionate about her work with the Christian dance ministry “In Step” atGatewayChurch in Oskaloosa. She also choreographed for the Christian dance ministry team at Real Life Christian Church while living inFlorida. As a mother of nine children, Chris also works at the Pediatric and Young Adult Clinic in Oskaloosa. Chris has a love of working with children and is very excited to not only be the director of a studio again, but to also offer themed children’s birthday parties and a dance boutique for dancewear needs. All nine of Chris’ children, yes even the boys, have danced, and now, her grandchildren have begun to dance. Daphni and Mary, Chris’ youngest daughters, have been involved in the process of learning the business and will also be an intricate part of the company. As Company Director, Chris’ focus will be vocabulary, technique, progression, creativity, and musicality: all tools necessary to empower the student in the art of dance. These principles assist in developing a well-rounded dancer and performer throughout their pre-professional years.
